This Corset is a unique piece made from a Japanese vintage Obi coming from Kyoto, from the Showa Era.

An Obi is a sash or a belt used to hold in place a kimono, a Japanese traditional dress.

It shows Golden Fans with Chrysanthemum and Peonies richly embroidered with both shiny and matte threads. The feature recalls the characteristics of the Pure Gold has when mixed with other metals. It can be treated with heat until the surface corrugates and deforms. The reflection of the light produces a pleasing aesthetic peculiar to the Spangold alloys.

In the past, in Japan, Fans were believed to keep away evil spirits, while also being used through specific gestures to silently communicate in public. They always play a fascinating role in the elegant traditional circular dance in a woman’s hand, and in Kabuki theatre are used to accentuate actors’ movements. In the Japanese imagery, a Fan is a symbol of Life as it spreads out when opened. The shape itself is considered a representation of many possible paths leading away from its beginning.

Gold Fans are thought to attract Wealth; therefore, they are a symbol of Prosperity.

The deconstruction of the pattern of the former Obi in the Corset aims to underline the aesthetic aspects of a facet surface.
