This Corset is a unique piece made from a Japanese Obi

coming from Kyoto from the Showa Era.

An Obi is a sash or a belt used to hold in place a kimono, a Japanese traditional dress.

The main motive of this piece are the four magnificent Pheasants in full flight, revealing the beauty of their ever-changing colours over gyrating monochrome Peacock feathers.

It Japan, the Pheasant is considered a messenger of Amaterasu, the Sun Goddess. 

Amaterasu was the ruler of the heavens, so her association with the Pheasant made it a symbol of power, abundance and promise.

To the Buddhists, Peacocks symbolize wisdom and as Buddhism reached Japan, the Japanese culture associated the Peacock with the deity called Kannon. It is a symbol of compassion and kind-heartedness and it is traditionally believed to have the power to counteract poison, invoke rain end ensure good health.

Nowadays, the Peacock symbolise integrity, nurturing and kindness.
