DESIGNER BIOGRAPHY
Sara Subiaco is an Italian Fashion Designer, born and raised in Rome.
Fascinated by the process of planning, designing, and constructing structures she started at first to study Architecture and then moved to study Fashion Design at the Academy of Fine Art. After her degree she collaborated with an American 3D printer company “Materialized”, she worked as a costume designer for the Documents’ Theatre in Rome, and then she moved to London.
Always attracted for articulated shapes and complicated structures, she started an experimental period with Gareth Pugh where she learned how to construct seemingly impossible and creative dresses. In 2015 she left the Ready to Wear scene to move to work permanently for the Haute Couture company Ralph and Russo.
Here she worked with an excellent team learning how to study the proportions of a garment draping the fabric directly onto the mannequin. After few months, she started to assist closely two Japanese modelists giving her the opportunity to deepen her technical skills in garment construction and in 3D creation. In 2018 she travelled to Japan for the first time.
After almost 6 years working within the Haute Couture, she had the chance to learn the whole garment making process in a contemporary fashion industry. Fascinated by recycling and in love with Japanese culture, Sara launched the first capsule collection of Corsets made from Japanese Obis in January 2021.
She founded her sustainable Label OBIforCORSET in July 2021 introducing the concept of upcycling in the Couture world.
Excited from the idea of converting something beautiful already existing into something new with a different shape. Commit to the idea to offer a personalised and unique experience to create a garment to keep in your wardrobe as a piece of art.
